MEM05018C - Perform advanced welding using gas metal arc welding process (from $780 to $840 p/p)
Overview
This course covers preparing materials, selecting and setting up the welding equipment, carrying out advanced gas metal arc welding (GMAW), inspecting for and correcting defects and maintaining the welds records.
Course Delivery/Duration
- Option 1
4-day course from 8:00am to 4:30pm each day
$780 (GST exempt) per person
- Option 2
12 consecutive Wednesday evenings from 5:00pm to 8:00pm
$840 (GST exempt) per person
Course Content
This course applies to welds associated with a range of structural and/or plate and/or pipe for general fabrication using ferrous and no-ferrous material. Weld quality would typically conform to Australian Standard 1554 Structural Purpose, Bureau Det Norse Verticas or equivalent.
The course covers:
- Preparation of welding materials and equipment
- Welding joints to code requirements using advanced GMAW
- Assessing weld quality and rectification or faults
Course Pre-requisites
Pre- requisites for this course are as follows:
- MEM05007C – Perform manual heating and thermal cutting
- MEM05017D – Weld using gas metal arc welding process
- MEM05050B – Perform routine gas metal arc welding
- MEM05051A – Select welding processes
- MEM05052A – Apply safe welding practices
- MEM09002B – Interpret technical drawing
- MEM12023A – Perform engineering measurements
- MEM18001C – Use hand tools
- MEM18002B – Use power tools/ hand held operations
Note: If you do not have the above pre-requisites you may still undertake this course however upon successful completion you will be issued with a Statement of Attendance, this is NOT nationally recognised. RPL assessments are available if you wish to be assessed against the pre-requisites and additional fees will apply.
Successful Completion
Students who hold the pre-requisites and successfully complete all the requirements of this course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for:

Students who do not hold the pre-requisites and successfully complete all the requirements of this course will be issued with a Statement of Attendance for:

Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding
- Safety boots
- Non-tinted safety glasses
- Welding helmet
- Gauntlet gloves
- Long pants and a long sleeved shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)
- Safety glasses, basic welding helmet and gauntlet gloves can be purchased from reception (Please enquire at time of booking)
