MEM20105 - Certificate II in Engineering

Overview
The aim of this course is to prepare students to enter the engineering trades as an apprentice and provides skills development and the basic underpinning knowledge required for a career in the Engineering trades. Career opportunities include fitting and machining, mechanical fitter, boilermaker - metal fabrication (light or heavy) and entry to diesel fitting.

The course can be delivered full-time over 12 weeks where students will undertake theory and practical assessments in a simulated work environment however there are no scheduled courses for this mode of delivery at present.

The course can also be delivered to Australian School-based Apprentices on a pathway to becoming a tradesperson in the engineering industry. The usual mode for this is day release from school.

In order to complete this qualification students must successfully achieve the 5 core units of competency and a number of electives (the number of units may vary but will usually be around 12 or sufficient to make up 30 points including any pre-requisites).

Course Admission Requirements / pre-requisites

Applicants will be required to attend an interview and undertake pre-assessment to ensure suitability for the course which may include drug and alcohol testing. You must be at least 16 years of age and have a command of the English language to enable fluent communication (written and oral). You must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (see PPE below).

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to be supplied by participant

  • Safety boots (steel cap)
  • Safety glasses (non-tinted)
  • Long pants
  • Long-sleeved shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)

Qualification
Students who successfully complete all the requirements of this course will be issued with a Record of Results and a Certificate II in Engineering (MEM20105).

Students who do not complete all the units of competency within this course will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units of competency that have been successfully achieved.

WorkReady Subsidised Training

You may be eligible for subsidised training in this course if you are 16 years or over and:

  • signed into a Training Contract with an employer i.e. an Apprentice or Trainee.

Course Fees for Students Ineligible for WorkReady Subsidies

The full course fee is $3,000. A deposit of 20% ($600) is required at enrolment. Direct Debit arrangements are available.
