RIIHAN301E - Operate elevating work platform (Yellow Card)


The EWPA ‘Yellow Card’ is a nationally recognised industry training program mapped to the unit of competency RIIHAN301E Operate elevating work platform, developed by the EWPA in consultation with members and industry. The intention of this course is to assist operators, employers, equipment owners and manufacturers to comply with the WHS regulation.

The ‘Yellow Card’ provides evidence that the operators of specific types of EWPs have been trained in the safe use of that type of work platform. The training meets and exceeds the unit of competency RIIHAN301E Operate elevating work platform.

The participant, their employer and the training organisation all have documentary evidence of the training received which can be verified on the EWPA website.

Course Duration

1-day course (8.00am to 4.30pm)

Course Content

This training program is designed for people who wish to or are required to develop the skills and knowledge needed to operate elevating work platforms. Participants may complete singular or multiple machine classes according to the type of work they will be undertaking.  Machine classes available with ATEC are: Scissor Lift (SL) and Self Propelled Boom (BL).  The course content includes:

  • Plan and prepare for operating an elevating work platform
  • Conduct work activities from elevating work platform
  • Carry out operator maintenance
  • Clean up

Course Pre-requisites

Participants must:

  • be at least 17 years of age
  • provide their Unique Student Identifier (USI). To apply for a USI go to http://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-your-usi
  • bring photo identification on the day of training
  • have a command of the English language to enable fluent communication (written and oral)
  • wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment see PPE below

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to be supplied by participant

  • Safety boots (steel cap)
  • Safety glasses (non-tinted)
  • Long pants
  • Long-sleeved shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)
  • High visibility vest
  • Sun protection as required

Successful Completion

Students who successfully complete all the requirements of this course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for:

  • RIIHAN301E - Operate elevating work platform
  • Yellow Card NB: This card is issued by EWPA not by ATEC
