Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) - Advanced (from $780 to $840 p/p)

Overview

This course covers preparing materials, selecting and setting up the welding equipment, carrying out advanced gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), inspecting for and correcting defects, and maintaining the weld records.

Course Duration

This course can be undertaken as:

  • 4-day course from 8:00am to 4:30pm each day $780 (GST exempt) p/p; or
  • 12 consecutive Wednesday evenings from 5:00pm to 8:00pm $840 (GST exempt) p/p

Course Content

The course applies to welds associated with a range of structural sections and/or plate and/or pipe for general fabrication.  Weld quality would typically conform to Australian Standard 1554 Structural Purpose, Bureau Det Norse Verticas or equivalent.

The course covers:

  • Preparation of welding materials and equipment
  • Welding joints to code requirements using advanced GTAW
  • Assessing weld quality

Course Pre-requisites

The Pre-requisites are as follows:

  • MEM05019D - Weld using gas tungsten arc welding process
  • MEM05049B - Perform routine gas tungsten arc welding
  • MEM05051A - Select welding processes
  • MEM05052A - Apply safe welding practices
  • MEM09002B - Interpret technical drawing
  • MEM12023A - Perform engineering measurements
  • MEM18001C - Use hand tools
  • MEM18002B - Use power tools/hand held operations

Note: If you do not have the above pre-requisites you may still undertake this course however upon successful completion you will be issued with a Statement of Attendance, this is NOT nationally recognised. RPL assessments are available if you wish to be assessed against the pre-requisites and additional fees will apply.

 

Successful Completion

Students who hold the pre-requisites and successfully complete all the requirements of this course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for:

  • MEM05020C - Perform advanced welding using gas tungsten arc welding process

Students who do not hold the pre-requisites and successfully complete all the requirements of this course will be issued with a Statement of Attendance for:

  • Advanced Tungsten Arc Welding

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to be supplied by participant

  • Safety boots
  • Non-tinted safety glasses
  • Welding helmet
  • TIG gloves
  • Long pants and a long sleeved shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)
  • Safety glasses, basic welding helmet and TIG gloves can be purchased from reception (Please enquire at time of booking)
