MEM20105 - Certificate II in Engineering

Overview
The aim of this course is to prepare students to enter the engineering trades as an apprentice and provides skills development and the basic underpinning knowledge required for a career in the Engineering trades.  Career opportunities include fitting and machining, mechanical fitter, boilermaker - metal fabrication (light or heavy) and entry to diesel fitting.

The course is delivered full-time over 10 weeks where you will undertake theory and practical assessments in a simulated work environment.

Skills Covered
In order to complete this qualification students must successfully achieve the 5 core units of competency and a number of electives (the number of units may vary but will usually be around 12 or sufficient to make up 30 points including any pre-requisites).

MEM05049B - Perform routine gas tungsten arc welding

MEM05050B - Perform routine gas metal arc welding

MEM09002B - Interpret technical drawing

MEM11011B - Undertake manual handling

MEM12023A - Perform engineering measurements

MEM14005A - Plan a complete activity

MEM18001C - Use hand tools

MEM18002B - Use power tools/hand held operations

Course Admission Requirements / pre-requisites
There are no pre-requisites for entry into this course however applicants will be required to attend an interview and undertake a Basic Skills Assessment.

Qualification
Students who successfully complete all the requirements of this course will be issued with a Record of Results and a Certificate II in Engineering  (MEM20105).

Students who do not complete all the units of competency within this course will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units of competency that have been successfully achieved.

Course Fees

Full fee paying participants (ineligible for WorkReady subsidies) will be required to pay the full course fee of $3,000.
