Course 1 - Certificate No’s: 1, 1E, 3 & 3E: Perform welds using MMAW

Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) to code standard carried out using a range of materials. The person would work autonomously or in a team environment using predetermined standards of quality, safety and welding procedures. Butt and fillet welds are produced in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Preparation of materials may include preheating, setting up of jigs, fixtures, clamps, etc. Materials used may include carbon/manganese steel, low alloy steel and aluminium materials, etc.

Course Content

  • Certificate No 1 - Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) of welds in carbon steel plate and carbon steel pipe over 600mm outside diameter.
  • Certificate no 1E - Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) of welds in carbon steel plate and carbon steel pipe over 270mm outside diameter
  • Certificate No 3 - Manual Arc Welding (MMAW) of welds using hydrogen controlled electrodes in alloy steel plates and alloy steel pipe over 600mm outside diameter
  • Certificate No 3E - Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) of welds using hydrogen controlled electrodes in alloy steel plate and alloy steel pipe over 270mm outside diameter.

Includes unit *MEM05046B - Perform welds to code standards using manual metal arc welding process.  This unit, in conjunction with Unit MEM05026C Apply welding principles, may satisfy the requirements of AS 1796 Certificates 1, 1E, 3 and 3E.

Course 2 - Certificate No’s: 2 & 4: Perform pipe welds using MMAW

Manual metal arc welding (MMAW) to code standard carried out using a range of materials. The person would work autonomously or in a team environment using predetermined standards of quality, safety and welding procedures. Butt welds are produced on pipe with the axis horizontal, vertical and/or askew. Preparation of materials may include preheating, setting up of jigs, fixtures, clamps, etc. Materials used may include carbon/manganese steel, low alloy steel and aluminium materials, etc.

  • Certificate No 2 - Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) of welds in carbon steel pipe.
  • Certificate No 4 - Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) of welds using hydrogen controlled electrodes in alloy steel pipe.

Includes unit *MEM05045B – Perform pipe welds to code standards using manual metal arc welding process. This unit, in conjunction with Unit MEM05026C Apply welding principles, may satisfy the requirements of AS 1796 Certificates 2 and 4.

Course 3 - Certificate No. 7: Perform welds using GTAW

Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) to code standard carried out using a range of materials. The person would work autonomously or in a team environment using predetermined standards of quality, safety and welding procedures. Butt welds are produced in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Preparation of materials may include preheating, setting up of jigs, fixtures, clamps, etc. Materials used may include carbon/manganese steel, low alloy steel and aluminium materials and pipe.

  • Certificate No 7 - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)

Includes unit *MEM05044B - Perform welds to code standards using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. This unit, in conjunction with Unit MEM05026C Apply welding principles, may satisfy the requirements of AS 1796 Certificate 7.

Course 4 - Certificate No. 8F: Perform welds using FCAW

Flux core arc welding (FCAW) to code standard carried out using a range of materials. The person would work autonomously or in a team environment using predetermined standards of quality, safety and welding procedures. Butt and fillet welds are produced in all positions. Preparation of materials may include preheating, setting up of jigs, fixtures, clamps, etc. Materials used may include carbon/ manganese steel, low alloy steel etc. on plate, pipe and rolled steel sections.

  • Certificate No 8F - Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW) of plate and pipe.

Includes unit *MEM05042B - Perform welds to code standard using flux core arc welding process. This unit, in conjunction with Unit MEM05026C Apply welding principles, may satisfy the requirements of AS 1796 Certificate 8F.

Course 5 - Certificate No. 8G: Perform welds using GMAW

Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) to code standard carried out using a range of materials. The person would work autonomously or in a team environment using predetermined standards of quality, safety and welding procedures.   • Certificate No 8G - Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of plate and pipe.

Includes unit *MEM05043B - Perform welds to code standards using gas metal arc welding.  This unit, in conjunction with Unit MEM05026C Apply welding principles, may satisfy the requirements of AS 1796 Certificate 8G.

Course Fees

Each Certificate requires the completion of a Practical unit and a Theory unit at a cost of $750 per unit.  For example, to complete the Certificate 7 students must first complete the Theory unit MEM05026C at a cost of $750 and then the Practical unit MEM05044B at a cost of $750, a total of $1500 per Certificate.  However, the Theory unit is the same for each Certificate so when this has been completed there is no need for it to be repeated therefore subsequent Certificates will require only a Practical unit at $750 per unit.
