Safe Environments for Children and Young People ‘Through their eyes’

This course has been developed in collaboration with the Department for Child Protection to provide information relating to Section 11 of the Children?s Protection Act 1993 (SA) and the associated obligations of mandated notifiers.

This 7 hour course is designed to assist participants develop their understanding of the issues, their obligations and to discover ways to protect young people from all forms of abuse. The course is approved by the Department for Child Protection and meets their assessment requirements. The Statement of Completion that is issued is recognised by the Teacher?s Registration Board and other organisations that require this training and is valid for three years.

Aims of the Program

To make participants:

  • Aware of how their own values, attitudes and experiences will impact on their understanding of child abuse and neglect, and on their response to children who may have been abused and neglected.
  • Aware of the importance of maintaining a child focus and perspective when considering the possibility of child abuse and neglect.
  • Able to identify a range of indicators concerning child abuse and neglect.
  • Able to discuss the concept of child safe environments and shared responsibility for the protection of children
  • Fully understand their legal responsibility to notify suspicion on reasonable grounds.
  • Competent in the process and procedure of reporting to the Child Abuse Report Line.
